Whenever my wife and I need to deal with the kids, we bicker over what kind of actions we need to take to keep them in line. Sometimes cockamamie schemes do the trick, but other times they end up backfiring spectacularly.

For instance, our son refused to take showers -- only baths. We agreed that just stopping up the tap would be a bit uninspired, so we decided instead to line the bottom of the shower with very uncomfortable-to-lie-on rubber daisies.

Sure enough, the day after the daises were put in, he was using the shower. Of course, that made it hard for us to take baths ourselves!

It truly is a fine line you have to walk, and even though David St. Hubbins is entirely fictional, his insight is truer than ever.
