My favorite music lyrics is:

This particular lyric, and indeed the rest of the song itself helped to reaffirm my self-confidence during a very trying time in my life. When I was struggling with school and recently excommunicated, I was troubled for years by a deep depression.

When I began to get better, those lyrics always reminded me that I was in control of my own destiny and that if I could live my life however I liked as long as I worked for it. Indeed, instead of being unhappy with the life that my parents and my church wanted me to live, I could make my own way.

To this day, I'll remember those words when a difficult decision arises. I am reminded to think clearly, without bias, and to trust myself to make the right decision. When friends come to me in distress about their situations, I try to help them discover the power they have over their own lives that this lyric points out.

In the end, you are the person that you choose to be.
